Bill Robertson, author of, The Origins of the Australia Kelpie, considers himself like most people on the land, multi skilled. 
Bill's work as a professional shearer took him around Australia and to various parts of the world. In 1974 he won the Australian Shearer of the Year award and he held the narrow comb merino sheep-shearing record.​
Bill has had a life-long interest in working stock dogs, regardless of breed or type. For most of his early life he owned and trained some outstanding collies for paddock and working is yards. Later as a shearing contractor, Bill worked with Kelpies & Collies in the extreme conditions and environments such as, the fertile regions of New Zealand and Australia. Also the isolated arid and semi arid regions where sheep seemed to compete for that lonely blade of grass, his varied experiences of working on the land have given him a unique opportunity to observe their suitability in the varied work environments. However, his observations not only included Kelpies and Border collies, they also included several other collie types, Beardies, Smithfield’s, Cooley’s, English Sheepdogs, Cattle dogs (Heelers) Huntaway’s and the Australian shepherd, all of which gave benefit in various environments.  
Since 1983, Bill and his wife Kerry have owned and operated Adele Video Production. Originally set up to service the rural industry, today their clients include some of Australia's largest companies, Their documentaries and corporate productions have won numerous National awards.
